If you want to be a great fly fisherman, you need the best gear you can afford.
I’ve gone back and forth several times about what gear I really need when out fishing. How much of it is necessary and how much of it is just a hype from a salesman that sold me? Luckily for all of us, WV Natives put together a little clip about what it takes to make them successful when they are on the water.
No doubt about it these guys do make good videos. When your whole reputation comes down to the gear you choose, getting the best you can afford is a priority. Of course, high dollar things don’t make a fisherman. It’s the fisherman’s ability to use those things that count. A $300 fly rod in the hands of a bait fisherman might as well be a garage sale cane pole, but give that same rod to an expert that knows what they are doing and you can watch them conduct a symphony with it.
All things are relative in the fishing world. What it comes down to is confidence. No matter what you consider the best gear out there, having the confidence to fish it like you’ll never fish again is the only way to grow as a fisherman.
